Educational trajectories and internal migration strategies among students of public higher education institutions in Bogotá

This study in progress seeks to understand "how social trajectories are conceived, school and migratory strategies followed by students who migrate to enter and remain in university programs in public HEIs in Bogota in the period 2012-2022. It is inscribed in the constructivist structural method, seeking to recognize the social space in which students fight for the different capitals in the university field, to analyze the different types of capitals that are put into play in search of the university degree in accumulation of institutionalized cultural capital (Bourdieu, 2007b). Likewise, to analyze the social practices they develop, the trajectories they have followed to reach their position in the space and the strategies used not only by them, but also by their families, in their permanence in the university field. The study is developed with a mixed research approach, in which the qualitative approach seeks to analyze the knowledge of the social actors and their practices using semi-structured interviews with four axes that seek to answer the questions How was their arrival in Bogotá to carry out their higher education studies? How was the context of the city in which they conducted their high school studies or from which they migrated? How is the development of their life in Bogotá? How do they see their professional and personal future at the end of their studies? and a quantitative approach using “Multiple Correspondence Analysis” (MCA), a multivariate statistical technique used to determine the trajectories and strategies of migrating students.
